How To Write A Great Greeting Card

I created my watercolor stripe stationery to include a card for every occasion: birthday, thank you, greeting, romance, and sympathy. They are for sale individually, or you can buy the pack of 5 here.

At the beginning of this year I realized that while I was making and selling greeting cards, I wasn’t sending very many myself! So, I set a goal to mail 52 letters before the end of the year.

While it sometimes feels like just one more thing on a to-do list, taking the time to write these letters has actually been really fun. In addition to reconnecting with some friends I haven’t checked in on in a while, it’s also challenged me to sit and think about my words as I write and reflect on my weeks, which is something I don’t do naturally.

So since I have a little experience under my belt now, here are the 3 things I include in my greeting cards:

  1. Nobody DOESN’T like getting cards in the mail and everyone loves to know that they are being thought of, so I like to start greeting cards by telling the person why they have been on my mind.

  2. I also tell them a life update or story that they might find interesting or relate to.

  3. Finally, I include a question or two to invite them to respond. Getting mail back is honestly my favorite part!

Here’s an example of a letter I wrote to my oldest brother (just don’t tell him because this letter hasn’t been delivered yet)!
